East End Well Update: Thursday, June 18

WPSCO’s Bruce Anthony said this week that the east end well should be producing water by the end of this week. Then the water department will conduct the required two days of testing, “so by some time mid-week next week, we should be pumping water in the system,” and the well should be back in working order by the end of the week, he said.

The brown water people are experiencing, particularly on the east end of town, is due to the natural coloration of the water. “It is not harmful,” he said. “We have maintained high enough chlorine levels for the water to be safe.”

Mr. Anthony also noted that all three city wells are going to be rebuilt by FEMA, so there will be periods in the coming months when there will be only two wells again and the same coloration problem will occur.
